Skincare treatments…Exfoliating, masks and spot treatments. See what I am using!

exfoliatingEveryone one has their daily skincare regime.  You can see mine here! But what about those extra days where we buff and slough, spot treat or cover our face in honey, clay, lemon, turmeric, avocado or bananas…whatever you do to make your skin brilliant, we want to hear about it! Post a comment below with your favorite treatment!

Allow me to tell you what I’m using and why and I will add in a few tips along the way 😉

~Lets talk exfoliators ~

I exfoliate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. very specific I know, but keeping the same days every week helps me to remember to do so as well it removes that question of “hmmm…when did I do it last? Was it Thursday? No, I worked late, it must of been Friday then.  Wait, no…I went out with the girls on Friday so it wasn’t then…” A specific routine will help keep you in check!

I always make sure my weekly treatments are done right after a bath or shower. The steam will help open your pores and allow the treatment to do a better job.

Neostrata Resurfacing DuoCurrently I am using Neostrata’s Microdermabrasion. I can’t say enough good things about this product. It is a two step process where you rub the “crystals” on your face for one minute and then apply the liquid activator over top and continue to rub for two more minutes. My face is so incredibly soft after! $72.00CAD.

darphin Aroma Peeling

When using any sort of exfoliator with beads, crystals, seeds etc. please make sure you do not press hard. You only need to apply gentle pressure for the product to do its job. Pressing too hard will only create more problems by causing tears even if you don’t see them.  These small tears are now vulnerable to your environment which allows bacteria to enter.

There are plenty of exfoliators that don’t contain a mechanical exfoliating property. These are excellent alternatives for those of us that have trouble being gentle on our skin.  Try Darphin Gentle Aroma Peeling. $58CAD.

*NOTE: Did you know that Neostrata products are actually dermatology products that are dumbed down to meet over-counter regulations?? This means that the products themselves are the same as you would get from a dermatologist but the active ingredients strength is less…but as high as the regulations will allow.

I also really enjoy Kate Summersville Exfolikate. It does tend to tingle a bit which some of you may not like, but personally I love a good tingle!  Makes me feel like it’s doing a good job! This exfoliator is rubbed on and left on for two minutes. It has microbeads in it to help slough away dead skin cells, and salicylic acid to eliminate bacteria. This product is not recommended for sensitive skin. A 2oz bottle runs a whopping $102CAD! And since this product isn’t recommended for everyone, I would suggest trying out the sample size first.  It is readily available for $22CAD.

~Facial Masks ~

First rule of thumb! Always apply your masks after you exfoliate. Your pores will be perfectly prepped for the treatment. Also, this will cut down on your treatment days as everything happens at once 🙂 Secondly, read the instructions! Some masks are very intense and can harm your skin if not used correctly.

I must admit, I have used a TON of masks! I have probably tried them all. Hands down, my all time favorites come from Origins. For me, they are gentle enough not to cause any irritation yet strong enough to always live up to their claims.

O clear improvementsTwice a week I use Origins clear improvements mask.  “Activated charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers. White China clay absorbs environmental toxins, and lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that stuff down there, skin breathes a sigh of relief. Best for all skin types.” ~Sephora~ At $28.00CAD a bottle, you can’t go wrong!

origins out of troubleOn those hormonal days when my skin is less than fab, I will swap it out for Origins Out of trouble mask. “When skin is too slick or when more pressing problems start to pop up, it’s Origins to the rescue. Formulated with natural troubleshooters, including super-absorbent zinc oxide and sulfur plus calming camphor, this mask rapidly responds to problem skin with a three-part plan: sop up oily-shine, slough off sticky, dead cells, and sweep away irksome debris.” ~Sephora~

There is one more treatment I add to routine. My favorite…the Luxury treatment! When ever I get a chance, I run the most beautiful bath. I absolutely love creating different bath concoctions! From salts to oils, milks and petals. I will write a post next week on my favorite baths! With that said, whenever I take a bath I always give myself a spa like facial. This is where I am less concerned with what it is doing for my skin, and more captured by the way it makes me feel so I can relax and enjoy!

I use Fresh’s Mask Trio. Cost $125CAD.

“With highly effective natural ingredients and sublime textures, this trio of targeted treatments offers the ultimate at-home facial. Follow these steps for spa-worthy skin.”

fresh trioSTEP 1: EXFOLIATE
SUGAR FACE POLISH (30ml) is a nourishing exfoliating mask that instantly softens and smoothes all skin types. It’s made with pure brown sugar and is infused with real vitamin-rich strawberries.

ROSE FACE MASK (30ml) is a hydrating and toning mask that restores radiance and suppleness to all skin types. Real rose petals are suspended in the cooling gel formula and instantly melt into the skin.

BLACK TEA INSTANT PERFECTING MASK (30ml) is an age-delay treatment that immediately reveals softer, firmer, healthier-looking skin. Packed with antioxidant-rich black tea, its velvety whipped texture is like none other.”

~Spot Treatments ~

eradikateKate Summerville EradiKate! This stuff WORKS! I apply it as soon as I see a blemish begin to appear and most of the time, it never ends up surfacing…how cool is that?! This product is a bit different than most.  It must remain upright and you are not to shake it. Apply at night by inserting a Q-tip into the jar down to the “pink part”. Then you simply dab the product onto the spot(s) you wish. Sometimes my face ends up looking like a checker board by the time I’m done! Haha!

At $27CAD, this product is must have!

“Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment heals blemishes and prevents future breakouts quickly. This powerful skincare solution provides the highest level of sulfur allowed in order to calm acne flare-ups and free skin of further bacteria buildup. The result is a clear complexion that lasts.” ~Sephora~
