Winter can really reek havoc on your skin. The dry cool air sucks all the moisture out that we so desperately need to keep our skin young and healthy! Luckily there are a few things we can do to prevent or remedy these pesky winter problems.
1. Relax and take a nice warm bath.
Do not make the water too hot as this is not good for your skin. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the water to help soothe itchy and irritated skin. It will also alkalize your body. Adding 1/2 cup of Epsom salt to the water will help release any toxins your skin may be carrying and will help soften your skin. Last but not least, adding a mineral soak gives your skin that extra boost while feeding your skin with vitamins, minerals and the essential nutrients that is needs. Try Astara’s Spirulina and Sea Mineral Soak.
P.S Do Not add bubble bath! Bubble bath is so incredibly drying and will only make matters worse.
We take the time to exfoliate our face as a part of our weekly routine so why wouldn’t you give your body the same treatment? Exfoliating will help remove dead skin from the surface allowing your body to absorb more of the nutrients you provide it allowing products to work better and last longer. Astara’s Citrus Lavender Sea Salt Scrub is a personal favorite as it has a glycerin base which leaves my skin hydrated without an oily residue. And it smells AMAZING!
Don’t use soap! Soap is loaded with alcohol and other drying ingredients. What you need is a high quality body wash that won’t strip the skin of it’s natural moisture. I recommend Astara’s Aromatic Seaweed Body Wash. It has an Aloe Vera base to help soothe and seaweed which contains essential fatty acids that don’t just infuse your skin with moisture, but also prevent your skin from losing that moisture.
P.S. Pat dry, don’t rub! 😉
4. Apply body oil.
This must be done within 3 minutes of leaving the bath. Every minute that passes allows more and more moisture to escape from your skin. Oil has the ability to penetrate deeper into the layers of your skin than moisturizer. Allow oil to absorb for 15mins before next step. I use Astara’s Aroma Nutrient Face and Body oil because it is chocked full of nutrients and antioxidants. Everything you would want from an oil is in this bottle!
Time to lock it all in! Not only does moisturizer ‘moisturize’ the skin, but it locks in the moisture that is already there! So don’t let all that goodness escape and slather on 🙂 Moisturizers are designed to make the external layers of the softer and more pliable. They increase the skin’s hydration by reducing evaporation. Moisturizers that contain antioxidants are ideal for dry skin such as Astara’s Antioxidant Body Lotion. Antioxidants help to prevent and repair damage to your body’s tissue. Antioxidants do this by slowing or preventing the effect of free radicals, which start oxidation, a process that causes damage from oxygen that can lead to cell dysfunction.
Do you feel that?? That’s right! Soft, smooth and nourished skin! It’s that simple 🙂

Grab your grandmothers humidifier and get that thing up and running in your bedroom! Your skin will keep nice and moist while you sleep 🙂
