As the hunt for the perfect lipstick continues…unfortunately, the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks didn’t quite fit the bill. Keep reading to find out what puts these lippies on my “worst of” list.
Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ~ $25.00CAD
PRODUCT CLAIMS
The shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick, all in one high-impact formula. Bold, long-wearing color glides on cleanly with the precision tip applicator, delivering rich color with staying power. ~Sephora~
The marketing write up for this product couldn’t be any more inaccurate if they tried. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that it’s all bad, as there were a couple things that I did like about these lippies. Let’s go over some Pros and Cons shale we?…
PROS:
They come in a wonderful array of colors to choose from
Some colors are highly pigmented
That’s about it for the Pros.
CONS:
These definitely do not “shine like a gloss” as claimed (the swatches below were taken when wet if they look a little shiny…)
Lasting power of a stain?? Pahlease!!
Claims of “glides on cleanly with the precision tip applicator” is total BS! The applicator is not precise at all! As you can see in the picture below, the color comes out through the center and blends through the rest of the applicator as it is applied. However, there never really is much color on the outsides making it extremely difficult to get a precise line around the edge of your lips. This may not be as much of an issue for the lighter colors as they are much more forgiving to the eye.
The cost is ridiculous for what you get! Individually priced at the same cost as most regular high end lipsticks, however, the tubes are half full and there is definitely more wasted product with this type of application then a tube lipstick. I would guess that if you used one continuously it wouldn’t last more than a couple weeks where as a tube lipstick would last months and months.
Lastly, the color Peony was so watery (as you can see in the pic below) that it literally would not apply. In the Picture, I must have added 4 layers just to get the color to show through.
Fortunately, Too Faced makes a lot of nice products that will continue to sell and make them a ton of money. But I would bet that this product will be discontinued before we know it. I guess they can’t all be winners 🙂
I agree! I have the berry one. By the end of the night, I had a strange looking lip if I did not reapply. The applicator when you first get it and squeeze the product out, it gives me goosebumps! Looks gross to me. I may be the only one. I use it when I know it will just be a quick run out to somewhere, but not a lippie I would rely on for hours.

Love your analogy Joy! What would you wear to rely on for hours?

Great review. That applicator is soooo “Lipsmackers-like” and brings me right back to the 8th grade!

I had a hard time finding lipsticks that worked for me as well, nothing was as pigmented as I needed. found I really like Sephora brand lipsticks for matte and creamy colors and for really creamy-glossy texture I’m currently loving OCC Lip tars (they were on sale during the holidays, not sure if it’s still going on though.) | melperkins.com

I’m sorry for your bad experience, but thanks a lot for sharing it online. Some time ago I was tempted to buy one of them, but considering what you wrote, I’ll skip the purchase. You almost saved me from a disappointing product! But again, it feels so bad when something is pricey but not worth the money 😦

I actually like these. I agree with you that they aren’t shiny at all. I have no idea why they are marketed that way! But I feel like I had pretty good control over the hot pink shade I received in my Sephora Favorites lip set and it was a pretty dark color. I’ve been wearing it most of the day and I ate and it had pretty awesome staying power. I went to take a picture of myself for my blog and I assumed I was going to have to re-apply and I was surprised that I didn’t. I received a weird pink shade in last year’s Sephora lip set so I never really wore it but I think I am going to try to figure out more opportunities to wear this hot pink shade. I think it will be fun for spring and summer.

Ya, i think the consistency in formula between colors is definitly off. Some seem to be much better than others. Im glad you are happy with the one you got 😊

I actually like these. They aren’t my favorite but lasted a lot longer than other lip colors I own. I agree
that they are not shiny though and I found my lips had to be exfoliated otherwise it would cling to dry patches.

Did you get any watery ones like i did?

No, the consistency on mine were pretty thick and I only had to swatch Peony twice to get a good shade.

They have a more matte finish to them when they “dry and set”, hence they accent any chapped lip cracks. For people with dry lips this may not be the best stand alone product

I tend to put a little bit of lip balm underneath them beforehand although I know they might not last as long. Otherwise exfoliating beforehand helps, but I still don’t understand why they are described as having the shine of a gloss because they really don’t.

I suppose a marketing exaggeration

I own one of these in Red, pretty much the ONLY color that ever looked good on my face. The online swatches show only the lip colors, they dont show how the color complements the full face. I agree that this is an overrated item. I also got mine like a fool, after i swatched it for my blog and wore it only one day at a wedding, its a waste of my money because the red is too bright to be worn unless special occasion which are so rare 😕 disappointed

If i could count the items that i only wore once…😬 haha
