Life is fabulous! I did a Beauty Swap with Janine from A Beautiful Whim! Not just any ol’ swap…a Surprise Swap sent directly from Sephora! To get the full scoop on what the swap was all about, the rules we set out, what we got of course, as well, I will share my first impressions on the products that Janine picked out just for me 🙂 Did I like what she got me? Did she like what I got her?? Oh the agony!!!
The Beauty Blogging world is so much fun. You get to meet a ton of new amazing people with EXACTLY the same interests! So it makes it really easy to be friend some one and share what you know will be a life long bond. A few months ago, a new beauty blogger, Janine from A Beautiful Whim sent me an email to ask me a thing or two about the beauty blogging world. I am always happy to help out my fellow bloggers so I kindly obliged. Little did I know that that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship 🙂 Awww…I can literally feel your eyes rolling in the back of you head right now! Haha! In all seriousness, we hit it off immediately and haven’t stopped talking since!
(Similar to Clint and JJ’s Bromance on the bachelor, without all the testosterone!)
Janine is super cool. She is a mother just like myself, we work in the same industry and we both have a profound love for beauty…and wine! This girl cracks me up every time I talk to her! She is absolutely hilarious and a little inappropriate which is why I love her so much! She tells it like it is, she is who she is, and we could all learn a thing or two from her. Let your guard down and be proud of who you are, there is no need to pretend to be someone or something your not. It’s nice to have a true, honest relationship like that as I find that as I get older, people seem to be ‘trying’ so hard to be what they want to be instead of just being who they are. I don’t know about you, but being all prim and proper and talking politics and stocks all night isn’t my idea of fun I can’t even pretend that I live in a perfect little bubble, that i’m the ultimate super mom or that my kids are always on their best behaviour. The truth is, that most of our family dinners end up revolving around the kids poop. Some days I stay in pajamas all day, my laundry pile is always out of control and while my house may look clean to the naked eye…never, EVER open a closet in my house! I guess what I’m trying to say is that she makes me feel comfortable, I feel like I can tell her anything and she never judges me for being me.
Anyways…definitely check out Janine’s site. She is a dedicated beauty blogger with very informative and interesting posts. A great summer read she recently posted: How To Get The Glow and Lit From Within Look.
We wanted to do something fun and interactive so we came up with the idea to do a Secret Sephora Beauty Swap! All items were to be ordered online and shipped directly to the other via Sephora. Neither of us knew what was to arrive at our doorstep! Of course we set out a few guidelines and each provided each other with a VERY detailed list of products that we already have, have too much of, products and brands we don’t like as well as products and brands we either don’t have any of or very little.
The guidelines were as follows:
- Purchase one lipstick.
- Purchase one gloss to compliment the lipstick.
- Purchase a wish list item. We each had wish lists but they were not specific. For example: Janine wanted a new highlighter. The shopper, in this case ME 🙂 would then figure out an item that I thought would be a good pick for her!
- Purchase an item of choice. This is an item that was thoughtfully picked out for the other person to try. It could be a personal favorite that I don’t think she has but must try or a brand I know is that would be new to her.
- Pick out Sephora samples. These come with every order, but definitely adds a bit of fun when choosing for someone else.
- The budget was $150 USD. I dreadfully stayed on budget as Janine took it upon herself to go over! I wasn’t entirely pleased when I caught wind of her over spending but only because I teased with the idea for a week and made the decision in the end to stick to the plan and have been kicking myself ever since! Obviously, inside I was doing summersaults with excitement and anticipation of what was to arrive!
Below you will find the items that Janine picked and shipped to yours truly! Janine was very selective as to why she choose each item. Go check out her Swap Blog Post to find out why she chose what she did!
My first Nars Audacious Lipstick! So exciting!! The matte texture is FAB-U-LOUS!!! Non-drying, super long wearing and comfortable. The color Janine chose, Juliette, is a stunning coral. It is BRIGHT! I don’t shy away from color so I am gonna rock this lipstick all summer!
Janine swears by this Dior Fluid Stick in whisper beige. She once mentioned to me that she wishes she was Santa Clause so she could giddily deliver these to every woman in the world…that’s how much she love this gloss!
I knew right away that I loved the color. I actually didn’t previously own any ‘Renowned’ Dior Fluid Sticks, crazy right?! As I suspected, I loved it! The color, the texture, the wear…amazing! Janine speaks of a little trick she has with this gloss in her swap post.
WISH LIST ITEM
My wish list item was one of two things…either a complimentary lip liner to the Lipstick or another lipstick! I recently received a new lipstick holder and I am trying my best to get that sucker filled up! Janine chose another lipstick…Yay! She is clearly obsessed with Dior (most of our conversations includes that word at least once) so to no surprise that was the brand she went with 🙂
I’m not a huge pink lipstick fan. I have olive skin and while I do own many pinks it’s not really something I reach for too often. Clearly, this is a more neutral shade of pink and it does look beautiful in the tube but I was definitely hesitant whether or not I would like this on my lips.
Was I ever surprised! This color is amazing! I would have never chosen this color for myself and I love it! It has tiny shimmers of gold and the formula is great too! When applied, it appears to be a very soft, peachy pink. It does stain the lip just a touch which I love because it looks just as fab once it wears off! You are left with a subtle color and a hint of shimmer.
Gold star to you Janine!
PURCHASERS ITEM OF CHOICE
Apparently Janine has tried ALOT of liquid liners and swears by this Stila liner! Holy cow, was she ever right! It goes on black as black with the first pass…(as every black liner should but tends to fail!) Thanks Janine!!
I may have mentioned to Janine that I have been on the hunt for that perfect soft, deep matte pink that looks fairly natural when applied…I know, I know…that’s asking a lot from an eyeshadow! She surprised me with this amazing ‘powdery pink’ from Makeup Forever. While I wouldn’t go as far to say that my hunt is over and this is the be all of end all pinks, however, I don’t have anything in this shade and she made a comment about pairing it with shades of brown for a grunge look. I love that idea so I will definitely get to work on creating a look.
I have been wanting to try this Elixir FOREVER! I’m not sure why I never made the plunge to actually purchase it but I am thrilled that this was in my box of surprises 🙂
Well it’s still too new to officially give it a thumbs up or down, my first impressions were definitely NOT what I was expecting. It has a very strong essential oil smell! However, it does dissipate fairly quickly. It also did sting a little as I applied it right after I washed my face. Things like that don’t bother me as beauty comes with a price, and sometimes that price can be a bit
painful uncomfortable I certainly did not see any immediate glowing results, but I will continue to use it and let you know my thoughts once the bottle is empty.
Below are full size images of the samples Janine thoughtfully picked out for me!
What did I get Janine? Drum roll please….
Janine told me that she was looking for a Pink Coral. She also mentioned that she didn’t have many Guerlain products. They don’t sell Guerlain at the Sephora I shop regularly so I didn’t get a chance to see this lipstick with my own eyes so I bought it blindly online. I hope she likes it!
I know my girl loves a high shine gloss so I know she will love this iridescent peach shimmer lip lacquer from Marc Jacobs. I LOVE Marc Jacobs products!
WISH LIST ITEM
Janine’s wish list item was a new highlighter. I actually wanted to get her the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial powder but it was out of stock 😦 However, she just told me that this Laura Mercier Highlighter trumps the coveted Mary-Lou Manizer! So I guess it’s safe to say I made a good choice!
PURCHASERS ITEM OF CHOICE
I chose this item because Janine had yet to own any Kevyn Aucoin products and since the celestial powder was sold out and Kevyn’s line is very limited at Sephora, the creamy glow duo landed in my cart. I have never tried Kevyn Aucoin’s products either so I can’t wait to hear what she has to say about this contour palette.
Again, below are full size images of the samples I chose for Janine. She once told me that if she ever forgot to put on perfume before she left the house, she wouldn’t hesitate to turn back. So I picked as many fragrances as were available. The Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue was a deluxe sample and has been my favorite summer scent for years! I hope she likes it as much as I do. I also chose Laura Mercier’s Radiant Primer as she was wanting to explore the brand.
And that’s all ladies! Thanks for making it to the end, I know it was a long read 🙂
A special thank you to Janine for all the lovely products she got me. MUAH!
Janine and I had so much fun doing this swap and wanted to collaborate on another project. So we have come together to bring you an AMAZING GIVEAWAY! So make sure you check back this coming Sunday as that is when it will go live. It is soooo good you guys!! Trust me, you do not want to miss out on this one!
