It actually pains me to write this review. Marc Jacobs has always been one of my favorite brands. I’m always drawn in by the sleek packaging and the products are usually top notch. And then came the Light Filtering Contour Powder 😦 …and the frigin’ brush too!
Marc Jacobs Instamarc Light Filtering Contour Powder ~ $59.00CAD (Mirage Filter 40)
Hmmm…Where should I start??
The good? Well..it is very, very, very finely milled. I love that it contains skin benefiting vitamins. Blends well and feels great on the skin. The packaging is stunningly gorgeous! So what’s the problem Victoria? Why are you bashing it?? Yes I am talking in the third person but for good reason! I know you’re thinking it so I want to save you guys some money and explain why I do not recommend this product. While the packaging looks fairly large, it is so thin that you are bound to hit pan very quickly. And we all know that once you hit that pan that the product tends to breakup and it no longer useable. So for 6o bux this ain’t gonna last you long!
As nice as it is to have such a finely milled product, again, you are losing so much precious product. A quick dip with your brush and the product is everywhere! Good bye hard earned money!
Onto the light filtering effects. Ummm…I haven’t come across this magical claim yet when using the product.
As a final note, and my love for Marc Jacobs, I would recommend this contour powder to those that don’t mind wasting their money and/or are beginners at contouring as the blendable powder formula is easy to use. But seriously…there are so many other products like this out there that would be much better money spent.
Marc Jacobs The Shape Contour and Blush Brush ~ $48.00CAD
I absolutely love Marc Jacobs Brushes. Well…most of them They are incredibly soft, dense and top of the line quality. The Shape brush does in fact have all of those wonderful qualities. However…this must be the worst brush to highlight. The oval shape in no way fits in areas to be highlighted. Shame on you Marc for trying to pass this off as a highlighting brush. I still love you though!
Marc Jacobs does have a wonderful brush that I use everyday for highlighting. It is the Face II Sculpting Foundation Brush No. 2. I will review it for you guys soon and show you exactly how I use it! Omg it is AMAZING!!! See pic below:
Back to the Shape Contour brush…For contouring it is ok. And I mean only “ok” It is a bit too large for my liking. Lets say you are contouring the hollows of your cheeks. You certainly do not want to over do that area but with this big brush it’s pretty much a given that you will have applied too much to the surrounding area. I do like it for the forehead and jawline but come on! How many different brushes do I want to use? I could easily grab a much less expensive brush that would be much most versatile.
Now that contouring and highlighting is out with this brush, lets move it to our cheeks and use it as a blush brush. Now we’re talking! A fabulous tool to apply blush. It’s rather funny actually because the original Marc Jacobs Blush Brush is no where near the quality and softness of his others. I am going to guess that no one is paying the high price for his scratchy blush brush. But now they have this lovely *insert sarcasm here* “The Shape” Brush. But lets face it, it is a blush brush and is replacing the crappy one they originally produced. Heaven forbid they claim to have made a bad product and re-invent it. No can’t do that! Lets make a brush and say it’s for contouring and blush and hey, they may as well throw in that it can also apply eyeshadow! (Don’t try this at home) Haha.
Don’t waste your money ladies…or gentlemen
Seriously, thank you for your honest review,… In pictures the powder and the brush looks perfect. Thank you for reviewing it in detail

bummer about the product not being the best. I think a lot of high end brands sometimes have certain products that are like ehhh, but people buy them because they are into the brand or the packaging. What a shame, but I always appreciate an honest review! Xx

omg…where do I start?! Shadows, Blushes, mascaras, liners, concealers, foundations, lipsticks, nail polish…The only other product I was disappoint in was the blush. It takes a lot of elbow grease to get out of the pan. Other than that, always great products!

Time for the next big thing! I can see that. Hopefully they… ‘the cosmetic creator gurus’ come up with an entirely new concept of makeup! Wouldn’t that be fun!

It is gorgeous!!! And the product isn’t bad. If you want it, go for it girl!…Just don’t expect it to last too long and definitely don’t expect for your face to be illuminated by the magical non existing filtering effects. As a regular contour, it’ll do the trick just fine.
