An Unbiased Review of Younique Makeup

Younique Makeup Review

By now, I’m sure most of you have heard of Younique. A makeup brand that is sold by independent consultants around the world. But with so many representatives out there boasting about their products and creating their own biased reviews, how are we to know if the products are really that good or if we are being duped by woman everywhere trying to make a buck? So please read on to get a true, honest, unbiased review of some of the products from myself who is 100% unaffiliated with this brand.

Younique Beachfront Bronzer Hermosa ~$32.00USD

The Younique Bronzers are dual sided half matte and half shimmer and are available in three different shades. I think the dual option is fantastic as you can apply it matte where needed and then spruce up some highlighting areas of the face with the shimmer side. They are formulated with good for your skin ingredients which is always a bonus! The product wore very well and lasted most of the day. It is a very pigmented product so a little goes a long way.
Unfortunately, the color for me was all wrong for me. Hermosa, the color that I personally chose was on the pink side as you can see in the swatch. As I have olive skin this clearly is not suited for my skin tone but would certainly be a great match for someone with cooler undertones.
I would suggest to Younique to have the Matte side larger than the shimmer side, as for myself, I will use up the Matte side much quicker than the shimmer as I use the shimmer side only for highlighting as I do not like shimmer all over my face. However, that is a personal preference when it comes to bronzing.

Younique Stiff Upper Lip Stain ~ $22.00USD

Younique Stiff Upper Lip Stain

I am loving these lip stains! They are extremely saturated with color and leave the lip with a phenomenal, last all day look.
Please allow me to set the record straight for anyone who has read any poor reviews of this product due to it’s “uneven application” or ” Dark flecks of skin” (which is the color pooling onto the dry skin on your lips.) In this particular case, it is the person applying the product, not the product itself.
A true lip stain (as this one is) can be tricky to work with if not taken the proper steps. However, if you take the time to prepare your lips (which is needed for all lip stains) you will greatly benefit and learn to love lip stains as much as I do.
I won’t go into detail on how to prepare your lips for a stain as this isn’t an article on that, but I will definitely do so in the near future. I will however explain quickly what my definition of a true lip stain is as there are many products calling themselves lip stains when they really aren’t. Needless to say, a lip stain should literally stain your lips! Like spilling kool-aid on a white shirt…it ain’t going anywhere! A creamy formula claimed as a stain, will likely leave behind a slight tint or stain to your lips once the moisturizing properties (or silicones) have dissipated but in no way can these types of products be compared and lumped into the same category as a liquid stain as they are a different bread so please keep that in mind.
So if you are on the hunt for a true lip stain, then these puppies are for you! *With that said…I have only tried two colors; Sultry and Shy. Both dark colors. I cannot speak for the lighter color stains as Younique carries 7 different shades.

Younique Refreshed Pure & Natural Rose Water ~ $29.00USD

I use this Rose water all the time! It’s kind of my go to spray for everything. From prepping to setting, refreshing and soothing. I would recommend this product for someone on a budget looking for a single product that can do it all. It soaks in beautifully, leaving a soft face every time. It doesn’t taste very good, so pull your lips in before spraying.
This Spray made my Must have Facial Sprays for Summer! You can check out that post HERE.

I also reviewed Youniques Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes which I’m pretty sure was the innovative product that really got people interested in this brand in the first place. You can see my review HERE.

Do I think younique products are overpriced? That’s actually a tough question to answer. As a beauty blogger and, well, just being the beauty obsessed girl I am, I regularly pay very high prices for makeup and skincare. The difference is that they are usually from familiar names and companies that are well known and sold in stores that we all enter and trust.  The truth is as I’m sure we are all aware, is that even those big name trusted companies come out with products that are less than subpar at times. So would I pay those higher prices for products that work just as well or better from a brand that I’m not familiar with? Of course! It’s not about the label on the front, its about the product inside and so far I am really pleased with what I have tried from Younique and feel that their quality is very good and worth what they are asking for in todays market.

I will definitely be checking out some of their eye products next. Shadow, liner and maybe some blush. Is there are any products from Younique you would like to get an honest opinion on? Let me know and I will try my best to get it reviewed.

Cheers, Victoria! kiss

  1. Lovely post darling. The quality of these products do seem amazing, might have to pick some up. Thanks ever so much for the review; I was intrigued by the products. As the products are quite pricy, which you recommend most?x

  2. I 100% agree with that a stain is a stain, not a creamy color that leaves a little pigment when it wears. I did a review on my youtube channel for the younique lip stain and i love them! it’s definitely something you need soft lips for as ANY stain will cling to dark patches and with the sheerness I’m not surprised if it’s not a smooth canvas it will look patchy. Love the honest review!

  3. Interesting! You know I haven’t considered this line because I didn’t trust reviews. Of course, this one, gives me the real scoop. Now, I’d rethink the products.

  4. I’ve seen this brand a lot recently, especially when looking at cruelty free makeup. I’d only heard about the mascara though. Honestly your lashes with the 3D mascara were the best I’ve seen! All of the promo pictures on Instagram had people with nasty clumpy spider lashes :/

  5. I’ve seen a lot about this company recently, mostly when looking around at cruelty free tags. Definitely reminds me of Avon or Mary Kay.

Your lashes with the 3D mascara where honestly the best I’ve ever seen! All of the people in the promo pictures on Instagram have really clumsy spider lashes from it :/

  6. thanks for the review! It is nice to hear an outside source talk about this products since I have been intrigued by them!

  7. The bronzer and the lip stains sound really nice! I have used their infamous mascara and I really like it! 🙂 xo

  8. Personally I haven’t tried any of their products but I am really not a huge fan of their business practices. I have had at of negative experiences with their sales people being pushy etc. I know they aren’t all that way but its put a bad taste in my mouth. Also most of the pictures I see if the products demonstrated aren’t applied well, so it’s hard to get a read on anything I might want to try.

    • That’s so sad when bad sales people ruin it for the rest of the us…and the other sales reps that work so hard and use fair marketing strategies. And yes, I agree with you that a lot of the applications aren’t great which is too bad because I do think that these are great products. The lady that sent me these samples, Alice, from has been so great and kind and I am really appreciative for her professionalism.

  9. The dual bronzer is a great concept but I agree, the matte side should be 2/3 of the pan.
Oooh that rose water mist sounds divine! 🙂
I’ve used mascara fibre systems before and while initially they look fabulous (if not a little fiddly and more work) I find that over time, the fibres would inevitably contaminate the mascara portion and the whole thing would end up a clumpy mess.
Eh, I think their prices are too bad, they’re comparable to say, Mary Kay.
