Nars Audacious Mascara Review

Nars Audacious Mascara Review

After a very successful launch of the Nars audacious lipstick last fall, an audacious mascara has now be born. But does the Audacious mascara compare to the quality and positive hype of the lipsticks? I have put it to the test!

Macys USA

At first glance, the mascara tube is gorgeous and sleek. I have always been a big fan of the Nars packaging, so that goes without saying. The wand itself is red, which is cool but I will never understand why cosmetic companies color their wands (as I’m sure it costs a little bit more to produce) when it’s going to be covered in mascara and you will never even see the color?! Anyways…
The wand is designed with over 200 molded bristles and lengthening hooks, and claims to catch and coat every lash evenly from roots to tips, lengthen, and amplify.

Nars Audacious Mascara

I honestly thought this was going to be a no brainer. That of course Nars is going to make a fabulous mascara, tried and tested thousands of times to assure impeccable quality. I don’t think I have ever really come across a Nars product that I have truly disliked. Maybe a color or texture was wrong for me, but the products themselves are usually pretty good, with the exception of the Nars Dual Intensity Blush. You can read review HERE.

I’m not going to go on and on as this is simply a mascara so I’m just going to give it to you straight.

The ‘special’ wand did separate my lashes wonderfully. I was just OK for lengthening and volume.
The bad news is that the Audacious Mascara FLAKES LIKE CRAZY! I’m no stranger to flaking mascara once my tube gets to be on the older side and that’s usually a sign for me to pick up a new one. But this one Flaked on its first application! And second…and third…and then I gave up! I’m also talking about a large amount of flakes, not just two or three little black flecks laying under my eyes…a hole wack of them! Not impressed!

Also, the wand is WAY TO BIG! I literally could not use it on my lower lashes and forget the upper inner corners!

I laugh when I read the product claims! See quote form the Sepora website below. Total BS!

Its tapered tip finishes off the inner and outer reaches of your imagination, while enhancing lower lashes.
An extraordinary balance of suppleness with staying power, this uniquely fluid first-to-market formula offers extreme buildability. Lightweight. Long-wearing.

Back to Sephora it goes. What a disappointment!

I have been continuing to use the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, Reviewed HERE, and although I still don’t agree that it ‘replaces a lash curler’ it is a great mascara and 5 bux cheaper than the Nars Audacious. Money, much better spent.

I think before I spend another penny on mascara, I will be taking a stab at some of the samples I have recently acquired :/

Best Mascara

Have you tried any of these? Which is your favorite mascara??

 Cheers, Victoria! kiss

  1. I haven’t tried it yet, but I love Nars and it’s bound to happen at some point that we find some of their products that we don’t like… bummer! I have tried the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara, which is the one I constantly use. I also love Lancome’s Hypnose Mascara! Which one is your favorite??

  4. To bad about the Nars mascara, I had high hopes for it but I have heard your complaint about flaking from to many people to actually buy it. I am the same with the sample mascara situation! I need to get through some of them! I currently am using and loving They’re Real,

  5. What a bummer!! Out of the samples pictured at the end I heard the tarte gifted is really great! I have the estee lauder one & I love it! MUFE and BUXOM are eh. My current favorites are Maybelline Lash Sensational. Estee Lauder Sumptious Mascara, Dior Extase, and I also love but am currently out of Better than Sex, and Dior Black Out! 🙂 Xx

    • Haha. I have been considering doing a full compare of all the mascaras (a different one everyday), with pictures and create a blog post about them but…I figure by the time I get that all done, half of them will have been discontinued or new ones released!

  6. I HATE the benefit roller lash…maybe I should try this one haha! Disappointing to hear though. I probably would have picked it up if I hadn’t read this review. My favorite high end mascara has got to be the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye- I recommend it!

    • Haha! You may like it for sure! However, the flaking is a deal breaker no matter how the mascara preforms for you. 😉 I actually have tried the BB Smokey Eye Mascara. It was my last months, day wearing mascara. Great choice! I do feel that there are better ones for a grander look. (if that’s what you are going for) such as the Too faced Better than sex Mascara. I have yet to find something that beats it for a uber dramatic evening look.
What don’t you like about the roller lash?

      • Yeah, I prefer the BB Smokey Eye for a day mascara. My favorite for an evening one is the Lâncome Hypnose Star, although I tragically ran out of it. I like the Too Faced one, but I have yet to purchase a full size tube. I stole a sample from my sister 😛 About Benefit roller lash: It’s so hard to get off! It literally feels like I rolled my eyelashes in eyelash glue. I have really curly eyelashes naturally so it doesn’t even make that much of a difference as a mascara. Have you tried the Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes? That’s what I’m currently using for a daytime mascara, and you can’t beat the waterproof in the humidity we are having in Orange County right now!

  7. My faves: Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes. Hands down–the greatest. I’m presently on my third tube. How great is it? My French better half detests when I wear false lashes. The first time I used this mascara, he accused me of wearing falsies. I had to tug on my real lashes to prove to him it was the Tarte mascara! Benefit’s They’re Real comes in a good second. The want makes application to the lower lashes so easy.
The one mascara that I found disappointing was Too Faced Size Queen mascara–the wand was just so enormous that I couldn’t apply the mascara–it ended up in the garbage (I actually wrote about this in one of my blog posts!)
Great information about the NARS mascara –and thirty four bucks IS a lot for mascara!

    • Why are they making these giant wands?? I have a lot of lashes and they are long, so if any one could make them work it would be me but they just aren’t practical or functional for that matter. I could only imagine the troubles one would have with short lashes trying to use a big wand.
I haven’t tried the tarte mascara but I have a sample of it and you have officially convinced me to at least try it out! Thanks! I have a full Tube of they’re Real and while I really like it, I find it IMPOSSIBLE to remove!

  8. Sorry to hear this mascara was a total flake! Literally! My favorite mascara lately has been he Covergirl Super Sizer. I just did a review on it and I love it! Sometimes it seems like drugstore mascaras beat out the high end ones. 😉 xo

  9. What a shame especially because the audacious lipsticks are so lovely! I love the maybelline mascaras and currently using Lancôme which I think is brilliant!

      • Currently using 3 (bad habit of opening too many at once… excitement lol) Wet & Wild Mega Length that’s awesome. Better for day time as its subtle yet v effective. Mac’s Zoom Fast Black Lash thats so disappointing 😦 So clumpy and sticky! Lastly, the one from Jordana. Super great but gets a bit too much product on. Still looking for my holy grail mascara! Any you can recommend? 🙂
