OOTD ~ Basics with an Edgy Twist

It’s shaping up to be a pretty fantastic summer! The sun is starting to rear its head here in Vancouver, I no longer have to get up early and drive the kids to school, and best of all, flats are the trend for summer 2016! It’s my dream come true to be able to wear flats all season long and be fashionable at the same time (insert dancing girl emoji here) Don’t get me wrong…I love my stilettos, how I look in them, how the ones I refuse to wear and ruin look fabulous in my closet but I am A-OK to pack them up for the summer and live the life of comfort. We deserve this girls and I plan to take full advantage!

So with that said, I wanted to share a look with you today that is super easy to create, fun, and totally on trend.

ootd Vans sneakers Black Leather JacketWhat I love about this outfit is that I always feel put together even in the most casual of circumstances. Whether it’s picking the kids up from school, going shopping with my sister or an impromptu lunch with friends. It’s just as easy to put together and just as comfortable to wear this look as it is to throw on a pair of sweats and a hoody.

I am also a big fan of basics and making them work for you in all sorts of different ways so that we don’t have to waste a ton money on pieces that will only get worn a time or two. Gone are the days where my closet is full of unused clothing. Not only is it wasteful and unnecessary but it seriously stresses me out staring at all that clutter!

How to wear sneakers 2016

To create this look, I started with my favorite pair of jeans. You know the ones…the pair that is so thin and on the verge of complete decay as they have been washed 103,535,650 times! Ya, those ones! But this look would totally work with yoga pants too! Throw on your favorite plain t-shirt or tank, any color will do. I tend to lean towards white more often than not because as you all can imagine, I like to wear a fair bit of makeup and I am always playing around with different colors so keeping my outfit neutral helps to not compete with my face if you know what I mean 😉

Now here’s the trick to making this ‘an outfit’ and not just some everyday jeans and t-shirt look. I’ve paired it with a black leather jacket and some super cool Vans. When pairing a simple outfit with a sleek, structured jacket rather than a sweatshirt or sweater, you are automatically upping your fashion game.

There are a ton of great options available right now for different styles and textures of jackets to fit any ones shape and budget. For years I wore a $35 faux leather jacket that held up like a dream and got a ton of compliments on until I finally took the plunge this year and purchased myself a real one.

To tie the whole look together I chose a playful, casual shoe. Vans have always been a must have for me as they come in so many different colors and styles that you can really pair them with almost anything. Not to mention quite possibly the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I couldn’t resist the new Mesh Sk8-HI Slim Cut Out when I saw them on UnionJackBoots.com!

Classic with an edgy twist is my style game for sure! Of course this outfit could be paired with a multitude of different styles and colors, the options are endless!

Here are a few other pairs that I think would look fab with this outfit!

Wearing Vans brings me back to days spent lounging at White Rock beach with friends, listening to music without a care in the world. Now, Vans are a fashion statement for all ages and occasions and I love it! For me, it’s like feeling little bits of nostalgia with every contented step.

Cheers, Victoria! kiss
