Salt vs. Sugar ~ How to Choose the Right Body Scrub!

BVspa Salt Sugar Body Scrub Review

GIVEAWAY!

Get your body smooth as a ken doll this summer by exfoliating! But with so many options, how do you choose the right one? In today’s post, I am going to go over the differences between Salt and Sugar Body Scrubs, their phenomenal benefits, and how incorporating exfoliation to your weekly routine will transform you skin!

I have pretty dry skin. Ok, ok…. I’m totally under-exaggerating there. My skin resembles the Sahara desert so exfoliating my body as part of my bi-weekly routine is essential to help slough away any dead skin that has managed to build up :/ I have tried many, many different types of exfoliators, scrubs, you name it i’ve used it and I am hear to tell you that not all scrubs are created equal!

Some are jammed packed with oils, which can be nice don’t get me wrong, but there is such thing as too much of a good thing and these overly oily scrubs can  leave a heavy oily film on your skin which makes it a real bitch to shave after exfoliating as the oils will clog up your razor. While others don’t have enough ‘grit’ in them to properly exfoliate, and then of course there are those DO NOT USE scrubs that exfoliate with ground up pits, shells, etc. creating very sharp edges that can and will make tiny tears in your skin which is obviously not good under any circumstances. If you are interested in learning more about why pits and shell scrubs are doing more damage to your skin than good, check out this well written and extremely informative post from A Beautiful Whim.

Don’t let that scare you away from exfoliating though, because there are so many incredible benefits when using the right products. From unclogging pores, promoting healthy, speedy turnover of skin cells, balancing oil production, purifying the pores of toxins and dirt and smoothing skin tone. All together, creates a radiant, fresh overall look and feel.

Sugar and Salt Scrubs are by far the safest to use as well as being extremely effective.

But what is the difference between Sugar and Salt Scrubs you ask? That is why you are here after all 😉

Benefits of Salt Scrubs:

Salt granules tend to be a bit larger allowing them to tackle rough skin making it a great scrub for feet, elbows, or any other thicker, more callus spots on your body.

Salt is also a great antiseptic and detoxify-er as well, if using Dead Sea salt, it will be loaded with minerals that feed and nourish as-well-as heal and soothe problem skin such as eczema and psoriasis. Dead Sea Salt also binds water, helping the skin retain water and keep it moisturized making it an excellent anti-aging ingredient all while keeping your skin hydrated all day long.

Benefits of Sugar Scrubs:

Sugar Scrubs tend to be smaller in size allowing them to be gentler on your skin. Sugar scrubs are excellent for an all over body scrubs even for delicate areas like the lips and sensitive skin.

Salt vs sugar body scrub

Sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid that aids in the exfoliating process as well, encourages cell turnover that will over time, reveal younger looking skin. Sugar also has natural humectant properties, that will moisture in to keep your skin hydrated and more importantly, to keep it from drying out.

Recommended Scrubs:

The body scrubs I have been using and loving are from BVspa. They are made with 100% natural exfoliants and enriched with oils such as safflower, jojoba and olive oil to soften and moisturize the skin. The scrub-to-oil ratio is absolutely perfect and OMG they smell incredible!!

My skin always looks and feels so amazing after I exfoliate with the BVspa body scrubs! These are an absolute staple in my routine just as much as shampoo, I will not be without. And with an affordable price of approx 12 dollars, I have no problem re-stocking as soon as I get low 🙂

BVspa carries both sugar and dead sea salt scrubs as well as body lotions and butters. I have been using the pink grapefruit body lotion and it is incredibly hydrating, non greasy and keeps your skin soft and smooth all day!

As an added bonus, the BVspa body lotions contain Squalane, a vegetable based extract that prevents free radical damage that causes the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin to help reduce appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. YASSSS!!
