Skin Firming Skincare Routine!

clarins-extra-firming-day-and-night-cream-reviewWell it’s about that time that again where I take a good hard look at my skincare routine and adjust it where needed. I definitely do this a few times a year, typically as the seasons change as the weather plays a huge role in what my skin needs on any given day. Environmental factors aren’t the only reason I like to check in with how my skin is doing. Time is passing everyday, and everyday we all get a little bit older and the unfortunate truth is so does our skin!

The long dry Vancouver winter had me using extra hydrating products as my skin was  Sahara desert dry. Yes, even my oily skin was a dehydrated mess! Also likely due to not enough water intake, too many holiday treats and comfort food meals. But Spring is upon us and I am soooo ready to see the sun in the sky again!

I am now in my mid-thirties and I am noticing my skin isn’t as taught and bouncy as it once was (insert sad emoji here) and I thought now would be a great time to introduce some products to help firm and lift the skin. I have yet to try any products for these types of concerns so I was super excited to get started!

Lucky for me, Clarins had recently launched a new product line that promises to visibly firm, lift, and fight wrinkles. With Clarins skincare being a long time favorite of mine, I knew to expect quality products and great results.

Lets start with the prep work!

Gentle Foaming Cleanser and Toning Lotion

I picked up the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Tamarind and purifying micro-pearls for Combo/oily skin and a Toning Lotion. I only use gentle cleansers now as anything too harsh really wreaks havoc on my skin. The Clarins gentle foaming cleanser does an amazing job at removing makeup and oil without stripping the skin.

I got the Toning Lotion with Iris for combination/oily skin. It is alcohol free (which is a must for me) I am one of those die hard toner users. I know a lot of people skip this step but it makes such a huge difference in assuring the skin is clean and perfectly prepped for skincare.

Mission Perfection Serum

clarins-mission-perfection-serum-reviewAs some of you may already know as I’ve talked about it before, I was plagued with melasma just over a year ago. While it still remains as mild dark splotches on my face, it is far less visible than when I first was diagnosed. I would say I am more in maintenance mode now however, I would love nothing more than to clear it up completely.

I have heard a TON of great things about the Clarins Mission Perfection Serum so I thought I would give it a try to see if it’s as good as everyone says it is. Spoiler – It is!! I’ve already noticed some of my spots fading and the serum itself is so smooth and soaks into the skin beautifully. I use this day and night and my sensitive skin has had no problems with it! I can already tell you that I will be re-purchasing and using the mission perfection serum at least until the end of summer!

Marks, discoloration, grey areas, acne-related marks, dull skin, redness… The ground breaking dark spot serum capable of correcting pigmentation disorders for a unified, luminous skin, without altering the natural skin tone. ~ Clarins

Extra-Firming Day and Night Cream– All Skin Types

clarins-extra-firming-day-and-night-creamAs someone who struggles with oily skin I get a little nervous when wearing a day cream for all skin types as I have had many issues with products being too heavy for my skin type and having my oils break through within the first couple hours of wear. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the Clarins extra firming day cream as it soaks in quickly leaving very soft, silky skin behind. It works very well under my foundation and I have had no issues with my skin getting extra oily throughout the day. I’ve been using the day and night cream for about three weeks now and can honestly say that I do see a difference in the tightness of my skin. It’s not a dramatic difference, but I see that my face looks a bit ‘lifted’ and my fine lines have been reduced. Could this be because my skin is more taught? I don’t know, but either way I am certainly not complaining. Also, my pores are noticeably smaller which is a major win me! All and all, i feel like I have been having great skin and makeup days these past couple of weeks and I chock it up to my new routine for sure. I will continue to finish the bottles and if I continue to see improvements, I will definitely repurchase.

The ideal anti-ageing day cream for visibly firmer, rejuvenated skin. Provides an immediate smoothing effect. Day after day, the skin’s youthfulness is boosted, wrinkles are visibly reduced, facial contours appear sculpted, and features appear refreshed. The complexion is more even, skin radiates beauty. Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream

My under eyes have always been my biggest struggle (until the melasma of course). They are super dry, lots of fine lines, dark circles, bags, you name it – I’ve got it! I am always looking for the next best thing and my current obsession is the Clarins Extra firming wrinkle smoothing cream. Not only does it hydrate incredibly well, but it smooths the skin beautifully keeping my under eyes crease free all day! It’s almost like a moisturizer/primer for the eyes. I am loving it!

Anti-wrinkle and comforting action for a soothed, more youthful-looking and smoother eye area! The anti-wrinkle comforting cream, youth and firmness expert for women aged 40 and up. Smoothed, nourished and comforted, the eyes retain their expressiveness without any fine lines or wrinkles, and look more seductive than ever! ~ Clarins

SOS Primer

I got Shade 03 Coral as it claims to visibly minimizes dark spots and evens out the complexion (back to the melasma issue)  – I can always use the help to even out my complexion! The effect is minimal as this isn’t a highly pigmented corrector and its not to be used as such. I’m not sure how much it’s helping even out my complexion as I wear foundation over it anyways, but I did notice that my dark spots looked less ashy with foundation which is nice. I also really enjoy this as primer. It certainly helps illuminate the skin and helps my foundation apply smoothly and last longer than if worn without.

Clarins has launched 6 different shades of the SOS Primers for different needs so if you are looking for something to counteract redness, dullness or need something to brighten up your skin I would definitely look into these a bit further.

Its fresh-feeling, flawless-effect formula contains High Lumitech complex to correct, revive, and illuminate the complexion instantly. SOS Primer is made with organic sea lily extract to deliver all-day hydration to the skin. The fine, weightless texture lets skin breathe and is formulated with the Clarins anti-pollution complex to protect the skin from environmental damage. The coral shade is ideal to conceal dark spots and prime the skin for make-up. SOS Primer effortlessly camouflages your blemishes and imperfections to reveal a radiant complexion. I am over the top thrilled with my new skincare routine and I wanted to give a very special thank you to Suzanne the manager at the Burnaby Kensington Square Shoppers drug Mart for helping me piece together the perfect routine. Not to mention that store is incredible! It has so many great brands from Urban Decay, Guerlain, Dior, Benefit and so much more! Plus, one of the largest drugstore makeup selections I have seen! Definitely go check it out if you are in the area.

For my Canadian friends out there, I’m sure you are all aware of the special events that Shoppers Drug Mart puts on and I urge you to take advantage as they are so much fun, educational and FREE!

I recieved a Clarins facial where I got to try a bunch of their new skincare, was educated in their benefits and what would work for my skin type and concerns. I was able to ask a hundred and one questions to a skincare specialist which really helped me feel comfortable with the skincare choices I was making.

On top of that, I got a complete makeover from a certified makeup artist and wow did she ever do a great job! I walked out of there feeling amazing and looking amazing too! She used a bunch of products that I typically wouldn’t have reached for so it was neat to see what products and colors she chose for me. She helped me pick out the perfect foundation and concealer shade and I really enjoyed seeing her different application style and technique and how they differed from mine. It was a really fun experience and I learned a lot, even for a makeup snob like myself. Did I mention that all of this is free? Sign up next time guys, you won’t regret it!

You can also follow them on Instagram ~ @sdmbb214 to see what events are coming up, new product launches and so much more!

Cheers, Victoria! kiss

  1. Thanks for the great recommendations! I live in Vancouver as well and am the same age as you and am not loving things starting to go south. laugh lines and jowls are driving me crazy:( I also have a large pores problem – I have been using Eminence Organics products and do like the moisturizer. it has helped with my pores for sure and also helps keep my dry skin hydrated. I will look into Clarins when I am ready to switch up my skincare routine.

  2. Thanks for your reviews. I might just have a look at the eye firming cream since I have yet to find the perfect cream for the eye area. Do you tend to mix product lines in your skin care? Or do you think using the same line helps in the way they work together?
